When Tool Academy 3’s first Tool victim, Amanda, left the show, she left alone. But it wasn’t her choice, nor was it the show’s. Her boyfriend, pro-wrestler and self-described “Jewish Prince” Chasyn “Not Cocky” Rance, had packed up and left the Academy hours earlier, abandoning Amanda and becoming Tool Academy’s first dropout in three seasons. “I can’t believe I got dumped by a cheesy wrestler on national TV,” she said in the limo ride back. Clearly both Chasyn’s real and his wrestling persona had turned heel. Amazingly, that wasn’t what ended their relationship. In this interview, Amanda talks about why they stayed together after the show, and why they’re apart now.

One thing Trina said about you was, “in some ways she got off easy because she had her eyes opened really hard and fast.” What were your first thoughts when Trina came out and told you Chasyn had left?

I was so shocked! I had no idea that he would leave without me. He had told me at the challenge that he was there for me and wanted to be with me.

How about the other girls?

The girls all told me that I was too good for him and to be strong. I am so glad that I had their support.

Did Chasyn give you any indication during the challenge or group session that he wanted to leave?

During the challenge and therapy I had expressed to Chasyn that I was miserable here, that I couldn’t eat or sleep, but I was here to help our relationship. He told me he was miserable too but he there to change. So I thought we were going to stay and work through everything together.

What was it about the Academy that made it hard to eat or sleep?

It was just a very stressful situation. Not knowing what was going to come out in therapy and everything there was very difficult to deal with.

I had the feeling that leaving the show was less about you and more about what happened when he wrestled the other Tools in their room.

I totally agree. Chasyn was not getting along with any of the guys from the beginning. He doesn’t have many guy friends, so this living situation wasn’t going to be easy for him. He was way too cocky to be accepted by anyone.

But you two didn’t break up until last Monday.

After the show taped, Chasyn picked me up from the airport with roses and my puppy and had a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner made. He told me that he wanted to help our relationship even though he couldn’t do it at the Tool Academy and would pay for professional help. I told him since he admitted he had a problem and would work harder that we didn’t need to go that far. Everything was going great after the show until it aired. After seeing all the footage and how he disrespected me I realized I am too good to stay in this relationship and be treated like this. I will not be a doormat!

How did you feel watching the episode this Sunday?

I was so embarrassed when I watched the episode. I know how Chasyn is when he wrestles, but it was never a direct reflection of me. Being at the Tool Academy, we were a couple and everything that he did reflected on me. I am so disgusted.

Was Chasyn a wrestler when you first met?

He told me he was a wrestler but I didn’t realize what that actually meant. I met him on a vacation, but he was still his cocky self. I would say he hasn’t changed since we started dating, I just got to know the real Chasyn, too.

Do you think he has trouble being able to tell when he should be in character and when to be himself?

The real Chasyn is sweet and down to earth, easy to talk to and level-headed. I think he knows how to differentiate when to be in character and when to be himself; he is just constantly surrounded by the wrestling world and his character has become his life.
