Jay-Z To Appear On ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’

It looks like the Jay-Z/Oprah connection isn’t going to be limited to the pages of O magazine.

The Brooklyn rapper appeared on Hot 97 radio Tuesday (September and revealed his interview with Winfrey will also air September 24 on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The two stars conversed last month at the rapper’s old stomping grounds, Marcy Projects, and Jay-Z took Winfrey to his grandmother’s old home in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Winfrey appeared smitten by Jay-Z’s charm, telling Gayle King during a radio interview that the two were now best friends.

Jay-Z told morning show jocks Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg he wanted to bring Winfrey to Brooklyn so local residents could see that her success is tangible.

“I brought her around there really for the neighborhood,” he explained. ” ‘Cause a lot of times when you see people or you hear about Oprah Winfrey, she seems almost untouchable. When I saw her, it was shocking to me. So I know how that feels, to see someone on TV and hear their name and know there so hugely successful. They seem unattainable … but for them to be around the way and for kids to just see that.”

Along with Rihanna, who reportedly was on the scene during the interview, Jay-Z and Winfrey caused quite a stir with their appearance. The neighborhood buzzed for days following the appearance.

Jay-Z said he wasn’t worried about returning to his old neighborhood, joking that Winfrey had a presidential-like level of security with her.

“There was a lot of people out there,” he said. “It was Oprah, you know? You don’t want people to come snatch her up. [There was] like secret service and helicopters all around.”
