‘Precious’ star will host ‘SNL’ on April 24, with musical guest MGMT.

This season, “Saturday Night Live” is pulling out all the stops. Next week, former “SNL” head writer Tina Fey and Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber are scheduled to appear. The Saturday after that, the outspoken Ke$ha will perform and Ryan Phillippe will host. And in May, Betty White will be one of the hosts of a Mother’s Day special.

And now, the “SNL” guest-host list contains an Oscar nominee. According to People.com, Gabourey Sidibe will host the April 24 episode of “SNL,” which will feature MGMT as the musical guest. The opportunity to host the show is the latest honor for the actress, who has been nominated for a number of awards for her acclaimed turn as the title character in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”

Sidibe has been cast in the new Showtime series “The Big C,” which is about a woman struggling with cancer and trying to find humor in the experience. She’ll star in the series alongside Oscar nominee Laura Linney and Oliver Platt. She also stars in “Yelling to the Sky,” which is due out later this year.

Sidibe may have found fame in Hollywood, but the New York native’s acting skills are self-taught. In an interview with MTV News last summer, she explained, “I don’t have any formal training [on] how to be an actress. I don’t know any better than to stop being the character once the scene is over.”
