Chris Brown Apologizes Again For Rihanna Assault On ‘Good Morning America’

‘It’s not something that I look past or look over,’ Brown says of February attack.
By Jayson RodriguezChris Brown responded to Rihanna’s sit-down with Diane Sawyer last month in his own interview with ABC News, an excerpt of which aired on “Good Morning America” on Thursday (December 3). In Brown’s interview with Robin Roberts, which will air in full on “20/20″ this Friday, he again apologized for assaulting his former girlfriend and reiterated the sincerity of his contrition.
“I’ve never ever had problems with anger,” Brown said. “I thought, ‘How could I be that person?’ ”
During her own ABC interview, Rihanna described the attack to Sawyer and said Brown had “no soul in his eyes” during the incident.
“At that point, I just didn’t know what could happen,” Rihanna said, detailing the events. “He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. It was almost as if he had nothing to lose. He had so much to lose. But it was almost as if he had nothing to lose. It wasn’t the same person that says I loved you. It definitely wasn’t those eyes.”
In his sit-down (which was initially slated to air next week), Brown watched Rihanna’s comments on a small monitor and sat expressionless as his onetime love talked about the dark moment in their young lives. After the clip ran, Brown hung his head low momentarily. Roberts then asked him if Rihanna’s statement was accurate.
“I was wrong for what I did,” Brown said, wearily. “And I would definitely say it’s not something that I look past or look over. It’s something that’s really touchy. And like I said, I’m really sorry for what went down and what happened.”
Throughout Brown’s string of media appearances since the assault — with CNN’s Larry King and MTV News’ Sway, in addition to interviews with New York radio station Hot 97 and BET’s 106 & Park, he’s been questioned about the sincerity of his apology. Brown has often said he is sorry, but his answers don’t appear to be weighted with as much emotion as fans expect.
Roberts asked if Brown understood the severity of his actions.
“Of course, 100 percent,” he replied. “I think what it is, when people see me smiling and kinda nonchalantly giving answers or saying things … I’m human. Really, I’m really hurting inside. And it really is kinda devastating me.”
The full interview with Brown is scheduled to run during 20/20 on ABC this Friday.
